Petra Kleis graduated from Copenhagen technical college in 2011. She has worked with brands such as Stine Goya, Adidas, Fila and shot portraits of Paul Smith, Diplo, HM The Queen of Denmark, Isabel Marant, King Krule & many others. Her candid style photography has appeared in magazines and newspapers including Numero, The Guardian, Eurowoman, Dossier, GQ and Vice.
In 2019 Petra also shot a book, now sold out, called Girlification, a testimony of her deep fascination with artist Maja Malou Lyse, her freedom, and playful mind. Over the course of three years, Kleis documented Lyse, as both an artist and muse, creating a fun and sexy portrait in book format. The book reads as a class work of erotic photography: the female muse, explored and examined by the photographic gaze. Visually the photographs are inspired by pioneers Juergen Teller, Nan Golden, and Helmut Newton. Girlification is a manifestation of the contemporary digital age as it draws attention to topics as internet porn, nude selfies #MeToo, and social media censorship.
